Video games are harmless fun right? They
give you to experience things you would never have been
able to in your own capacity. Sure, some of us know how
to use a gun, but how many will ever use it against an invading
alien race, or against the Nazi’s in WWII? A lot of us can
drive a car, but how many will ever race a Lamborghini Gallardo,
or a Bugatti Veyron? Against Michael Schumacher or Colin
McRae?
But what if there was something more sinister
behind game development?
Enter The Conspiracy.
The plot starts in 2006, but The Conspiracy
has been running since the dawn of the videogame. Government
officials had been trying to find a way to cut costs in
training its elite soldiers, and got news of a then small
company, Virtual Technologies, that was privately funding
its own programme for training people through simulation...
shortening training time, lowering expenses and preventing
injuries.
The officials liked the programme, and
adopted it, taking over its funding. For a while, results
were good. Training time was shortened, and subject's skills
of tactical decision making and logic were superior to soldiers
with regular training. Due to the controversial nature of
the training, all subjects that undertook the training were
assigned to a black ops group, which left no paper trail,
and was funded unknowingly by the taxpayer.
However, as the desired skills got more
complex, the software started becoming more technical.
Smaller and smaller amounts of subjects
from a voluntary pool were gaining the desired effects of
the programming. It appeared the ultra-sonic signal was
getting too complicated for the brain to comprehend, and
thereby ignored by the subject. Certain subjects had continued
to acquire muscle memory through simulation, but too few
to keep the newly formed black ops group at optimum capacity.
VirtuaTech was at risk of losing its funding.
By this time, videogames had become a
popular pastime throughout the world, and VirtuaTech execs
had made an agreement between various game developers and
the government to code its programme into videogames with
desired skills. These included basic firearm use and safety,
military strategy and technique, along with less practised
skills such as advanced driving. More sinister aspects are
implemented too, including lowering moral standards, for
a truly ruthless killing machine...
Upon finding these new recruits, they
are drafted into this black ops group... which is entrusted
with only the dirtiest of governments jobs, with little
information on who the hit is on, giving all parties involved
plausible deniability.
So what happens when some of these recruits
rebel? More importantly... what happens when one of them
still has a conscience?
